Photography and Self-Portraiture Workshop for Trans- and Non-Binary People

In this daylong photography workshop, Noe Warren will teach the trans and non-binary participants how they can use photography to create empowering visual manifestations of themselves and their often-complex identities.

The Workshop:
“I have been told to let you know why you should come to this workshop I am giving and I think the first reason should be that I am really anxious that no one will come. So please do.

The second reason is that a guy at a bus stop once told me that I am really good at explaining things and last but not least, there will be fancy cameras, a dress up-box and an entire day where we can lip-sync and take new profile pictures for Facebook and if you want we could talk about being trans and photographed, why cis-people are so obsessed with before / after pictures and we could look at some queer photographers whose work is fucking glorious. It is free and you don’t need to know anything about cameras but if you do and want to learn more we can do that too.

Please write an email to [email protected] with a little bit about yourself, I’m really looking forward to meeting you.” – Noe Warren

About Noe:
Noe is a trans-identified multi-disciplinary artist and photographer. Their work resolves around their identity as a sex worker and transgender human and has been exhibited internationally. For more info please visit www.bynoewarren.co.uk.

Accessibility:
The workshop is free of charge and will take place in the upstairs room at the Marlborough Pub- and Theatre. There is one flight of stairs. The ground-floor toilets are wheelchair accessible. If you have a PA, they are more than welcome to join. Please let us know if you have any access requirements and we’ll do our best to make it work.

Trans Life Drawing

Time: 19:30 - 21:00

Location: Marlbourough Pub & Theatre, 4 Princes Street, Brighton, BN2 1RD.

|

Part of The Marlborough Theatre’s Trans Pride Season.

Jared is a Brightonian artist and experienced trans male life model who finds the work liberating, affirming and fun, and wants to encourage the trans community to explore that too. He is teaming up with The Marlborough to host a trans life drawing night with a diverse range of models.

Figurative art has traditionally focussed on white, able-bodied, cisgender people. And we’ve seen enough of that. Cis bodies are everywhere, normalised in art, life and porn, whereas trans bodies are a political battleground for everybody but ourselves. By taking control of our own representation, we take back our bodily autonomy. By sharing our vision, we invite others to see it too.

We would like to encourage any trans person who might be interested in paid modelling on the night to get in touch, regardless of experience. Please email [email protected] to express your interest.

Make Art, Be Art.

All drawing materials will be supplied but feel free to bring your own, and absolutely all abilities are welcome.

Please note: this event is open to trans and non-binary individuals only.
