Our Commitment

Trans Pride exists as an annual event but also as a year-round community centre and organisation for Trans People to connect and build solidarity. As volunteers, we represent the heart of this movement — creating a safe, welcoming, and affirming space for everyone.
This Code of Conduct sets out the standards of behavior expected from all volunteers to ensure the wellbeing, dignity, and safety of all participants, attendees, and fellow volunteers.

1. Respect and Inclusion

  • Treat everyone — attendees, performers, volunteers, and staff — with respect, kindness, and dignity.
  • Use people’s correct names and pronouns. If you make a mistake, apologise briefly and move on.
  • Be aware that not everyone is “out” or comfortable discussing their identity. Respect privacy and boundaries.
  • Celebrate diversity — racism, transphobia, homophobia, sexism, ableism, ageism, xenophobia, or any other form of discrimination will not be tolerated.

2. Communication and Teamwork

  • Be polite, calm, and professional when interacting with attendees, other volunteers, and the public.
  • If conflict or confusion arises, seek guidance from your team leader rather than engaging in arguments.
  • Listen actively and support your fellow volunteers.
  • Keep internal communications (e.g., WhatsApp groups, radios, or emails) respectful, relevant, and private.

3. Boundaries and Conduct

  • No physical contact, harassment, or unwelcome attention toward attendees, performers, or other volunteers.
  • Do not share personal details, photos, or private conversations without consent.
  • Volunteers must not be under the influence of alcohol or drugs while on duty.
  • Smoking and vaping are only permitted in designated areas.
  • Respect the space and property of others, including event equipment and public areas.

4. Health, Safety and Responsibility

  • Follow all safety procedures and instructions from your team leader or the event safety team.
  • Report any hazards, incidents, or inappropriate behavior immediately.
  • Keep hydrated, take breaks, and look after yourself — you cannot help others if you are unwell or exhausted.
  • Wear your volunteer badge or lanyard at all times during your shift.
  • If you feel unwell, unsafe, or overwhelmed, tell your supervisor or head volunteer. Support is always available.

5. Privacy and Media

  • Ask before taking photos of attendees, especially trans, non-binary, or youth participants.
  • Never share identifiable images or information about attendees or other volunteers without consent.
  • Direct any media or press inquiries to the designated Media or Press Team.

6. Representing Trans Pride

  • Remember: as a volunteer, you represent Trans Pride to the public.
  • Be kind, inclusive, and professional — even outside of your official shift.
  • If you see behavior that goes against this Code, intervene if it is safe to do so, or report it promptly.
  • Repeated breaches of this Code may result in removal from the volunteer program.

7. If Something Goes Wrong

If you experience or witness harassment, discrimination, or anything that makes you uncomfortable:

  • Tell your team leader or the Volunteer Coordinator immediately.
  • If you do not feel comfortable reporting directly, you can email or speak privately with the charities Whistleblower.
  • We take all concerns seriously, with compassion, confidentiality, and zero tolerance for retaliation.
