Accessibility information for the livestream and online workshops is now available:
Livestream access details
Financial access
The event is completely free to watch, and all performers have been paid for their contributions.
Broadcast platforms
The event will be streamed simultaneously on YouTube, Twitch, and Facebook.
BSL interpretation
All of the livestream will be accompanied by live BSL interpretation.
We have contracted the agency Sign Solutions to provide BSL interpretation for the livestream event this year.
Captions
Pre-recorded segments of the livestream will have burned-in hand-written (not auto-generated) captions in English.
Live segments will have real-time captions, in English, captured by experienced live captioners. We have contracted CJ Captioning to provide live captions this year.
Audio description
Audio description is not available during the live event this year. We apologise for the access barriers this poses and we are aiming to release audio description for the recording after the event.
Content notes
This is a family friendly event and the livestream will contain no swearing, discussion of adult themes, or nudity.
We will aim to highlight any potentially triggering or upsetting content before each performance.
Chat
All of the broadcast platforms have a live chat function. We’ll also be providing a Discord server with a watch party channel to chat during the livestream – and after!
Moderation
We endeavour to provide a safe and joyous space. We do not tolerate prejudice, discrimination, or abuse of anyone on the basis of their gender identity or gender presentation, sexuality, race, ethnicity, class, visible or invisible disability, nationality, religious or non-religious beliefs, language abilities, age, or body shape.
The chat spaces on YouTube, Twitch, Facebook, and Discord will be moderated by Trans Pride Brighton volunteers during the livestream. The moderators will monitor the chat spaces to flag and remove any inappropriate or abusive content. But please be aware that as this is a public event we cannot guarantee that the chat spaces will be completely free from trolls.
Lessons learned
Trans Pride Brighton 2020 was our first online event, and it was not problem free. The online stream was beset by problems with subtitles, with the BSL interpretation, and with the audio. We recognise that we need to do better if Trans Pride Brighton is going to be supportive to those who are most disadvantaged within our community.
We hope that the access commitments detailed above go some way to resolving some of the issues flagged up last year. We also received feedback that on last year’s stream the BSL overlay was too small for the interpreter to be visible, which we will resolve this year.
We recognise that not offering audio description during the live event is far from perfect and apologise to those in our community who will not be able to fully enjoy the day.
Thanks to Bi Pride UK for providing a template for this accessibility statement.
